California Girls State

California Girls State is a leadership and citizenship education program for high school girls. Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, it is held every summer at Sacramento State University. Participants form and operate a mock state government, gaining a deep understanding of political and governmental systems.

Legislation Activities: One of the key components of the program is the legislation process. Participants draft, debate, and vote on bills, experiencing the full legislative process. This activity helps students develop critical thinking, public speaking, and collaborative skills as they work to pass laws that address real-world issues.

I was grateful to be elected as the Superintendent of Schools because education equality is something I have been passionate about. As the Superintendent for Dorsey County, I gathered with the Board of Education to discuss and come up with an action plan for improvement in schools for our county. Below are documents of instructions I was given, as well as a 6-minute presentation I gave in front of our county citizens along with my Board of Education members.

Early Childhood Development Equality Act of 2024:

This legislation was proposed by me to establish and expand early childhood development programs specifically designed to increase educational opportunities for minority youth and promote equality in education. This legislation will amend the current education code to include targeted funding and implementation of these programs in underserved communities. The act defines early childhood development programs as educational initiatives for children from birth to age five, focusing on cognitive, emotional, and social development. It also emphasizes the importance of equality in education, ensuring all children have access to high-quality educational resources and opportunities, regardless of their background.
